— The Back Room, in collaboration with HARTA, presents Side by Side (排一排), a solo exhibition by Liew Kwai Fei at HARTA Gallery in Ampang. Running from October 23rd to November 17th, the exhibition showcases over 30 of Liew’s previously unexhibited paintings, displayed non-chronologically to encourage a broader reflection on painting and its traditions. Liew, one of Malaysia’s most prolific contemporary painters, is known for his abstract work, blending brushstrokes, colors, and techniques in a way that defies simple categorization. Viewers are invited to engage directly with the paintings, allowing personal interpretations to emerge. The exhibition includes works from Liew’s series The Art of Painting 2.0 and Gesture. Abstraction. Painting. 1.0 and 2.0, highlighting the evolution of his artistic style. Special receptions for media, collectors, and the public will be held throughout the exhibition.
