 HARTA presents ‘ANAK ALAM 50 TAHUN (1974-2024)’ a group exhibition brings together 12 artists from the Anak Alam collective, including pioneering figures such as Latiff Mohidin, Mustapha Hj. Ibrahim, Ali Mabuha Rahamad, Zulkifli Dahlan, Maryam Abdullah, Siti Zainon Ismail, Ismail Abdullah, Abdul Ghafar Ibrahim, Yusof Gajah, Mad Anuar Ismail, Abdul Mansoor Ibrahim and Mazlan Noor curated by Faizal Sidik. On view from 6 to 31 August 2026.

Founded in 1974, Anak Alam emerged as an alternative arts collective that united painters, sculptors, poets, writers, musicians, theatre practitioners, and cultural thinkers. Guided by a spirit of creative freedom, the collective embraced experimentation across disciplines while fostering meaningful connections between art, nature, society, and spirituality. Over the past five decades, Anak Alam has come one of the most influential collectives in the history of modern and contemporary Malaysian art.

Through artworks, archival materials, and historical documentation, this exhibition traces the evolution of Anak Alam and the lasting contributions of its members to Malaysia’s visual arts. Together, these works reflect a shared artistic vision shaped by lived experience, a deep sensitivity to the natural world, and a strong collective spirit.

Presented in conjunction with Anak Alam’s 50th anniversary (1974-2024), this exhibition celebrates the collective’s enduring legacy and invites visitors to reflect on how its values of community, artistic freedom, and creativitiy continue to inspire Malaysia’s cultural landscape today.
