FAIZAL SIDIK :
MATEMATIKA
A Solo Exhibition
7th Jan 2026 - 31st Jan 2026
A Solo Exhibition by Faizal Sidik, on view from 7th to 31st January 2026
MATEMATIKA is a field of knowledge concerned with numbers, quantities, form, structure, space and logical relationships, articulated through symbols, formulas and systematic reasoning.
Within the context of visual art, Matematika does not merely function as a system of calculation. Rather, it operates as an aesthetic structure of thought - one that shapes the relationship between rationality, abstraction and visual experience. In contemporary abstract art, Matematika emerges as a non-verbal language that governs composition, space, rhythm and balance, while simultaneously opening deeper fields of conceptual interpretation.
Grids, lines and geometric forms in Faizal Sidik’s practice function as open systems that invite contemplation on order, chance and continuity. It is within this space that Matematika becomes a metaphor for a broader search for meaning - extending beyond the physical form of the artwork itself.
This exhibition invites viewers to consider Songket not merely as a craft heritage but as a manifestation of mathematical and aesthetic thinking deeply embedded within local culture. Through Songket, Matematika is translated into a subtle, structured and meaningful visual language - one that remains profoundly relevant within contemporary artistic and cultural discourse.
