REFRAME
AND RESIST
6th Sept 2025 - 28th Sept 2025
HARTA in collaboration with Asia West East Centre (ASIAWE), supported by British Council and seeded by The Living History Project present to you Reframe & Resist: Decolonise Here and Now! is an exhibition and public seminar in Kuala Lumpur that asks what it means to live with the word “decolonisation” in the present – the project creates space for reflection, dialogue, and experimentation.
Curated by Rebecca Yeoh (Malaysia) and Leon Wainwright (Professor of Art History at The Open University, UK), the initiative grew from a series of conversations – between artists, educators, academics, and community partners.
These exchanges became the foundation for a collective process of thinking and making. The project brings together five Malaysian creative practitioners (Collective duo: Boon and Kai Ting, Anas Afandi, Roopesh Sitharan, Jakob von Klang and Aida Redza) alongside academic partners Prof Syed Farid Alatas (National University Singapore) and Dr Kate McMillan (King’s College London), seeded by The Living History Project and in collaboration with AsiaWE Foundation.
Their practices intersect across artmaking, pedagogy, cultural memory, and community work, culminating in an exhibition, workshops, and a final publication.
