Silent Persistence:

A solo exhibition by Syahbandi Samat

6th June 2026 - 28th June 2026

HARTA in partnership with Artemis Art is pleased to announce Malaysian artist Syahbandi Samat’s seventh solo exhibition, Silent Persistence. Well-known for his meticulously executed ballpoint pen on canvas artworks, the exhibition is the artist’s second solo exhibition held at HARTA, after The Road Less Travelled held in 2023.

Curated by emerging Filipino artist Dennis Bato, Silent Persistence is a somewhat thematical shift away from themes of confession and regret depicted in his earlier works, offering the consequence and causality of ‘what if’ explorations that lay bare vulnerabilities, reflections of the artist’s lived experience that resonate with how we grapple with everyday choices, while weighing the possible outcomes of our actions.

Although still introspective in nature, Syahbandi’s artworks selected for the exhibition reflect a growing maturity along his continuing journey of self-realisation, subtly articulating the realisation that many of his concerns are similarly shared by society at large. The focus shifts from purely personal to one that is more encompassing of the world he lives in.

While his ballpoint pen on canvas works continue to comprise the bulk of works exhibited, Silent Persistence will also feature sculptural interpretations of selected works. All exhibited works are available for purchase (subject to prior sales).
